Here are some frequently asked questions about our place and league. If anything else comes up, feel free to ask below!
1. Who are you?
We are Classic Motorsport Hub, or CMH for short. CMH is a racing organisation/league founded in late 2020. We mainly use rFactor 1 as our racing platform but we also slowly transition to using Automobilista 1 in the future.
2. Who is at the top of the feeding chain at your place?
Matthew Sibanyoni originally founded Classic Motorsport Hub on December 1st, 2020 together with Pascal Mikula . The CMH Forum was created by Pascal Mikula in Summer 2021, and as of August 1st, 2022, Pascal Mikula is in charge of Classic Motorsport Hub and at the top of the feeding chain, in that sense.
3. Why do you still use rFactor 1?
rFactor 1 is still a highly versatile platform, even 15+ years after it was published. The content available for it are largely available only for it or, in smaller scale, available for even older platforms (e.g. GTR2), hence why rFactor 1 is our main platform. We don't think too highly of rFactor 2 and other modern simulators as far as being able to authentically recreate racing of yesteryear in full is concerned; stuff like Assetto Corsa or Project CARS may have some historic cars and tracks, but piecing together everything to make a full season out of it seems rather difficult. Adding to that, rFactor 1 isn't really that resource-heavy, meaning even people who don't have an expensive gamer setup can still enjoy what we have to offer.
4. You recreate classic racing series, what does that mean exactly?
Our goal at Classic Motorsport Hub is to bring back the glory and the immersion of the racing of yesteryear. Be it 80s Endurance Racing, 60s and 70s Formula One, or even niche little-known series like Formula 5000 or the Nordic Challenge Cup, we strive to recreate those racing series as authentically as possible with the rules as they were back then. That means we'll look for the tracks run back then, the rule set, lap counts, points systems, obviously the cars, and everything else needed to get things going.
5. That sounds like the cars may be difficult to drive! I race on a controller/keyboard, does that mean I won't be able to handle the cars?
We have a few people racing here who own only a controller, and they're doing well enough. With a controller, you don't get as much feel and precision as with a wheel, but as long as you don't endanger anyone else, that's fine. If you've only got a keyboard, though, then you're highly advised to at least get yourself a controller, because no matter what we drive, it'll be near impossible to drive on a keyboard.
6. What sort of driving assists do you allow? And will you run full damage, too?
Generally, only Automatic Clutch. If a racing series had driver assists in real life (think early 2000s Formula 1 cars), then we allow those too. Otherwise, none.
And yes, damage will always be set to 100% except in absolutely rare circumstances where 100% damage would cause unnecessary carnage.
7. What if I want to protest something? Someone did me wrong on-track, what do I do?
At the top of the bar, there's a button called "Protest Form". Please click on that and fill out the Google Form. It'll go to the admins and we'll deal with it to our best abilities.
8. This sounds great, I'm sold! How can I join you?
All you need to do is register on this forum. Choose your display name as you wish, but please change it to your real name or an appropriate alias as per our forum rules. Other than that, registration and racing is completely free. If you wish to race with us, check out the forum regularly and check out the threads for whatever we run. If you have any questions, you may of course ask in the relevant threads. If you want to simply chat with us, use the shoutbox at the bottom or our Discord server. You can access the Discord server by clicking the Discord icon on the top of the page.
