Following the fourth round of the 2022 CMH International Masters Trophy, the Stewards have investigated two incidents and have made the following decisions:
1) Involving: Christian Dauger , Lap 61; Infringement: Chatter during the race session
Decision: Christian Dauger receives a warning for chatting during the race. He only receives a warning because the chat message itself was short and didn't contain any obviously offensive content, but he's advised to refrain from using the chat function in future events unless absolutely necessary.
2) Involving: Christian Dauger , Lap 61-63; Infringement: Failed to serve Drive-Through penalty, received Disqualification by the game on lap 63
Decision: Christian Dauger's disqualification from the 1971 Road Atlanta CanAm is upheld. He will not receive any reprimands or penalty points because he made an honest attempt to clear a penalty, mistakenly attempting to clear a Stop&Go penalty despite never having received such. Christian is also highly advised, in case he ever receives a penalty by the game again, to carefully check and be positive of the exact type of penalty to avoid such a situation in the future.
Explanation: Christian received blue flags from Giovanni Centorame coming to lap him. Not having allowed Giovanni to pass him in due time, the game awarded Christian a Drive-Through penalty. According to his own testimony, Christian interpreted the penalty as a Stop&Go penalty, not noticing the game actually awarded a Drive-Through penalty.
When in the pit lane, Christian stopped at his pit box, thinking he was going to clear a Stop&Go penalty, although he never received such a penalty. Alas, he never received the option to clear such a penalty, instead being subject to a regular pit stop. Because he made a pit stop, the Drive-Through penalty was not cleared either, as a driver must not stop at their pit box when serving a Drive-Through penalty. At the end of lap 63, not having served his Drive-Through penalty, the game black-flagged him.
Between receiving the penalty and eventually being disqualified, Christian was never in a position where serving his Drive-Through penalty (either at 100 kph according to CMH Penalty Rules or receiving a 30-second penalty in case he sped through at full speed) would have affected his racing position. Adding to that, the game also reminded Christian on Lap 63 about serving his penalty.
Thus, he had enough opportunity to clear his Drive-Through penalty but did not manage to do so.
As such, unfortunately, the Stewards and Race Control decided to uphold the decision by the game.
